Localization Specialist job description

Salmon is a technology-driven financial company building a banking and lending platform across Southeast Asia, starting in the Philippines.

We combine global fintech expertise with deep local market knowledge to make financial services simple, accessible, and useful for millions of people across the region.

7M+ app downloads. 2M+ monthly active users. 10,000+ partner stores. US$310M+ raised from leading global investors.

Manila-based, globally distributed, and hybrid-first — our team spans 45+ countries.

If you want to solve complex problems at scale and impact how millions of people access and manage money, come build with us.

Southeast Asia's fintech moment starts here.

About the role

Salmon's content — marketing, product, and support — is already in good shape in English, but nothing gets properly localized without ad hoc help. You'd own that layer end-to-end and become our go-to expert on how things sound in Tagalog and Cebuano.

This is a senior role: you set the quality bar, build the glossary and style guide, and make the calls yourself rather than follow someone else's rulebook. Done well, this could grow into its own small localization function down the line.

What you'll do

  • Translate and localize marketing, website, product, and in-app copy into Tagalog and Cebuano — Cebuano work will grow as the product expands into new regions, but native-level fluency is required from day one, not something to grow into.

  • Adapt content for cultural relevance and natural register across Philippine regional audiences — deciding independently how to translate, how to adapt, and what to keep in English.

  • Review Filipino content before publication, including as backup reviewer for other authors, catching language and cultural issues before they ship.

  • Partner directly with Marketing, Content, and Product to take briefs, manage priorities, and deliver on schedule.

What you'll own

  • The quality bar for all Filipino-language content, including improving what's already published.

  • The Filipino-language glossary and style guide, aligned with brand voice.

  • The team's go-to expertise on Filipino-language and regional-audience nuance.

What makes you a strong fit

  • Degree in linguistics, translation, journalism, communications, or a related field — or equivalent professional experience in language and text work.

  • 3+ years of experience, with demonstrated ownership of a localization workflow end-to-end

  • Proven professional experience in editing, translation, journalism, copywriting, or localization for commercial clients.

  • Native or near-native fluency in English, Tagalog, and Cebuano.

  • Strong editorial judgment — able to evaluate content quality, make independent localization decisions, and give clear feedback to authors.

  • Experience building or contributing to localization guidelines, glossaries, or style guides.

  • Understanding of how Filipinos interact with financial products and digital interfaces — not just language skill, but product intuition.

  • Familiarity with localization/TMS tools (e.g., Lokalise, Phrase, Smartling, Crowdin) is a plus.
