Robotics Field Engineer (CH) at RIVR

RIVR is hiring a Robotics Field Engineer (CH) in Zürich, Switzerland. On-site.

About RIVR

RIVR is a Swiss robotics company that builds autonomous legged robots for last-mile delivery. Its robots perform doorstep deliveries, and each delivery generates data used to improve its AI, which combines large-scale reinforcement learning in simulation with real-world self-supervised learning. The company owns the full stack from software to hardware, focusing on reliability, safety, and cost efficiency.

Robotics Field Engineer (CH) job description

RIVR, part of Amazon is a robotics company pioneering Physical AI through real-world doorstep delivery. Founded in 2024 as an ETH Zurich spin-off, RIVR developed wheeled-legged robots designed to operate in complex, unstructured environments such as stairs, gates, doors, and uneven urban terrain. We believe that achieving general physical intelligence requires solving real customer problems in the real world, where robots can learn from rich operational data at scale.

Following our acquisition by Amazon in March 2026, we are continuing this mission with greater reach and speed. By combining custom robot hardware, onboard autonomy, and cloud-based coordination, RIVR, part of Amazon is building the next generation of safe, reliable autonomous robots for last-mile delivery

Job Description

As a Robotics Field Engineer at RIVR, you will be the critical link between our advanced robotics technology and real-world deployment. You will serve as Tier 2 technical support, acting as the primary interface for other Amazon teams when complex issues arise in the field. This role is designed for a technical problem-solver who excels at Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and enjoys the challenge of debugging hardware and software in live environments. Beyond troubleshooting, you will play a strategic role in our development cycle by providing real-world operational insights to our QA teams, ensuring our test cases reflect the unpredictable nature of the field.

What you'll be doing

  • Serve as the Tier 2 technical escalation point for field operations, interfacing directly with Amazon last-mile teams to resolve complex system issues.
  • Perform deep-dive Root Cause Analysis (RCA) on field failures to identify whether issues stem from hardware, software, or environmental factors.
  • Execute debugging and perform quick technical fixes to maintain a target ratio of 1 engineer to 5 robots.
  • Collaborate with QA Engineers to provide real-world input for the design of full-system test cases, ensuring field edge cases are captured.
  • Lead the operational readiness and optimization of RIVR's deployed robots, ensuring seamless integration across diverse sites.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, troubleshooting guides, and Service & Support SOPs for Field Technicians.
  • Act as the technical bridge to Product and Engineering teams, translating field-identified issues and RCA insights into structured requirements for the product roadmap.
  • What you must have

  • A degree in Engineering (Robotics, Mechanical, Electrical), Computer Science, or a related technical field.
  • Strong proficiency in C++ and/or Python for debugging and scripting.
  • Proven experience working with ROS2 and robotics frameworks.
  • Hands-on experience troubleshooting real robot hardware and complex electromechanical systems.
  • Proven ability to navigate complex codebases and robot logs to perform systematic diagnostics on sensors, connectivity, and control systems.
  •  Exceptional communication skills in English, with the ability to translate technical root causes into actionable feedback for non-technical stakeholders.
  • Willingness to travel 50%
  • Get some bonus points

  • Prior experience in a Tier 2 or Tier 3 support role within robotics or industrial automation.
  • Experience with Amazon operations or similar last-mile delivery ecosystems.
  • A proactive mindset geared toward "leveling up" team technical capabilities and operational efficiency.
  • RIVR, part of Amazon is committed to building a diverse and inclusive team that values every perspective. If you’re passionate about driving innovation in robotics and creating meaningful impact, we encourage you to apply and bring your unique self to our team.

We believe the best work is done when collaborating and therefore require in-person presence in our office locations.
