Who is Rollee

Rollee is a data platform that helps financial institutions make better risk decisions by accessing verified income, employment, and other alternative data directly from the source.

The way people work has changed. Income can now come from multiple employers, freelance work, gig platforms, or other sources, but many financial institutions still rely on traditional documents and credit data to understand someone's financial situation. This can make verification slow and fragmented and can leave people with non-traditional income profiles underserved.

Through a single platform, we connect to sources such as gig platforms, government tax portals, payment platforms, and other employment and income systems, then transform that information into structured, actionable data. Our customers use it to verify income and employment, improve their risk models, reduce fraud, and make better underwriting decisions.

Ultimately, our mission is to help build a financial system where people can be assessed based on a more complete picture of their real financial situation, regardless of how or where they work.

The role

We’re looking for a Backend Engineer to join our Coverage team.

The Coverage team is responsible for expanding and maintaining Rollee’s ability to connect to employment and income data sources. You’ll work on challenging technical problems involving web and mobile applications, third-party systems, APIs, authentication flows, and data extraction.

We’re open to different levels of experience. You might be a junior engineer looking for an environment where you can learn quickly and take on increasing responsibility, or a more experienced engineer ready to own problems independently and contribute to technical decisions.

What matters most to us is your curiosity, problem-solving ability, and willingness to understand how systems work under the hood.

What you'll do

• Build, maintain, and improve integrations with employment and income data sources
• Investigate and resolve production issues
• Explore web and mobile applications to understand how they communicate with backend systems
• Work with undocumented or partially documented third-party APIs
• Debug authentication flows, network requests, and data extraction processes
• Write reliable, maintainable Python code
• Contribute to technical design decisions and help improve our engineering practices
• Improve the testing, monitoring, and automation of our systems
• Collaborate closely with engineers, Product Managers, Data Scientists, and other members of the team
• Take ownership of your work, iterate quickly, learn from feedback, and continuously improve
  
  

The scope and level of ownership will naturally depend on your experience.

What we're looking for

We’d love to hear from you if you have:

• Experience with Python
• Experience with web scraping, automation, data extraction, or similar technical challenges
• A good understanding of HTTP, APIs, and client-server communication
• Some experience exploring or debugging web and/or mobile applications
• The ability and curiosity to investigate systems with limited or incomplete documentation
• A strong problem-solving mindset and an interest in understanding how things work
• The ability to learn independently and get comfortable with unfamiliar technical challenges
• Good written and spoken English

Nice to have

Any of the following would be a plus:

• Experience with network debugging and traffic analysis
• Knowledge of authentication and authorization mechanisms
• Familiarity with application security, encryption, and common security protocols
• Experience reverse-engineering web or mobile application behavior
• Experience working with large datasets
• An understanding of privacy-by-design principles
• Experience with automated testing, CI/CD, monitoring, or DevOps practices
• Experience designing maintainable backend systems and APIs
• Experience working in a remote engineering team
