Systems Engineer for Reaction Wheel Development (all genders) job description

As a Reaction Wheel Systems Engineer, you will take technical ownership of our in-house reaction wheel development. Working at the intersection of mechanical engineering, electronics, and control, you will define the system architecture, including state of the art and new research findings, and guide the product from its initial concept through qualification and in-orbit commissioning.

Your Mission:

  • Ownership and technical leadership of the reaction wheel development from Concept to In-Orbit testing.
  • Responsible for system architecture, trade-off studies, requirements, verification and validation, and components selection such as suitable electric motor and appropriate bearings.
  • Perform microvibration analysis and implement mitigation strategies, while supporting the build-up of these capabilities in house. 
  • Define verification methods, test criteria, and acceptance criteria in collaboration with the integration and test teams.
  • Prepare and lead technical reviews, define technical budgets, and create documentation.

Your Background:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years of proven expertise in actuation systems and mechatronic design for precision or space applications.
  • Hands-on experience with reaction wheels, electric motors, or similar actuators.
  • Strong understanding of control systems, mechanical dynamics, and electronics integration.
  • Ability to take ownership of complex technical topics and coordinate work across multiple engineering disciplines.
  • Experience with simulation tools like Matlab/Simulink is a plus.
  • Experience with Microvibration analysis and mitigation is a big plus.
