Senior Application Developer (VB.NET) at Fusang

Fusang is seeking a Senior Application Developer (VB.NET) to build and enhance our proprietary corporate secretarial and client accounting systems used across our global offices. This is first and foremost a hands-on coding role—you will be writing high-quality, maintainable VB.NET and MS SQL Server code every day. It is not a business analyst position. What makes it different from a typical developer role is that we expect you to genuinely understand the business workflows behind the systems you build: how work actually flows, where it is slow, manual, or error-prone, and how to automate and optimise it—leveraging AI both in how you write software and in the solutions you deliver. In short, a strong engineer who thinks about the business, not just the code.

Key Responsibilities

• Understand the Business Workflow: Work closely with business users across corporate secretarial, client accounting, and operations teams to deeply understand how their work actually flows—the steps, the hand-offs, the pain points, and the outcomes that matter—before deciding what to build
• Automate & Optimise with AI: Identify manual, repetitive, or error-prone processes and design solutions that use AI and automation to streamline them—measurably improving speed, accuracy, and the day-to-day experience of
  business users
• Solution Design & Requirements Translation: Partner with the Business Analyst and business users to translate business needs into practical technical solutions, weighing trade-offs and recommending the right approach rather than simply taking orders
• Application Development & Enhancement: Design, develop, and maintain well-structured, testable, and efficient VB.NET code for our in-house application systems
• Database Design & Optimisation: Work with MS SQL Server including database design, query optimisation, and administration to ensure system performance and reliability
• Legacy Modernisation: Maintain and enhance existing VB.NET applications while identifying and driving opportunities to modernise, simplify, and automate them
• Production Support: Address and resolve production issues and inquiries from business users in a timely manner, ensuring system stability and user satisfaction
• Technical Problem-Solving: Investigate and resolve application and system issues, troubleshoot complex codebases, and implement robust solutions
• Code Quality & Documentation: Write clean, maintainable code with high test coverage, conduct code reviews, and maintain clear technical and release documentation
• Continuous Improvement: Continuously look for ways to improve performance, reduce technical debt, and raise the level of automation across our systems and delivery process

Required Qualifications 

• Education & Experience: Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field with at least 5 years of hands-on application development experience, including a track record of delivering
  solutions that improved a business process—not just shipping features
• Business Acumen & Process Thinking (Core): On top of strong coding skills, a genuine ability to understand how a business operates, ask the right questions of non-technical users, map out a workflow, and spot where it can be automated or improved. This complements your development work—it does not replace it; you are still expected to build the solution yourself
• VB.NET Expertise: Strong proficiency in VB.NET and the .NET Framework, including Windows Forms UI design, WCF services, and development
• Database Skills: Solid experience with MS SQL Server including storedprocedures, SQL query optimisation, database design, and administration
• Version Control: Proficiency with Bitbucket for version control and collaborativedevelopment
• Problem-Solving Excellence: Strong analytical and debugging skills with ability to troubleshoot complex codebases independently
• Self-Driven & Proactive: Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, take ownership of outcomes, and drive improvements without being asked
• Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English with ability to engage business users and present ideas clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences
• AI-Driven Development & Automation (Required): Proficiency with AI-assisted coding tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, or GitHub Copilot is essential—this is a core part of how we build software at Fusang. Equally important is the judgement to apply AI to the business itself: automating workflows, reducing manual effort, and optimising how work gets done
• Next.js & React: Experience with Next.js and React is advantageous
• Domain Knowledge: Knowledge of corporate services, or accounting domains is a plus
