About the role

The Software Engineer (Backend) is part of the Engineering team and reports to the BE Lead.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain highly scalable backend services and robust APIs.

  • Define and implement robust API contracts to ensure seamless data integration with consuming services (e.g., frontend applications).

  • Troubleshoot, debug, and optimize performance of backend systems, data pipelines, and database queries.

  • Architect, provision, and manage cloud infrastructure using AWS services, focusing on scalability and reliability.

  • Document system and service configurations and procedures.

  • Review code rigorously, providing constructive feedback and ensuring code quality and maintainability.

Requirements

  • Experienced professional: At least 3 years of experience developing scalable backend systems using object-oriented languages such as Python, Java, or Go.

  • Deep experience with relational and NoSQL databases, including schema design, query optimization, and management (e.g., PostgreSQL, DynamoDB).

  • Solid understanding of system architecture, distributed systems, and designing for performance, security, and high availability.

  • Proven experience designing, building, and documenting RESTful and/or gRPC APIs.

  • Strong experience with Django and Django REST Framework for developing scalable backend applications and RESTful APIs.

  • Strong experience with AWS cloud for infrastructure management and service deployment.

  • Experience implementing robust monitoring, alerting, and logging solutions for production environments.

  • Microservices: Skills in design, develop, and deploy containerized microservices on AWS platforms like ECS or Fargate, ensuring independent scalability and agility.

  • Automation champion: Belief in "code over manual", and implementation of automation tools like Terraform or CloudFormation to streamline provisioning, deployment, and management of infrastructure and microservices.

Nice to haves

  • Familiarity with DevOps practices and CI/CD tools.

  • Knowledge of containerization technologies like Docker.

  • Experience with message queuing or streaming systems (e.g., Kafka, SQS).

  • Passion for staying up-to-date with the latest backend technologies and trends.
