About InPlanet

InPlanet uses Enhanced Rock Weathering (ERW) in the tropics to permanently remove carbon from the atmosphere and remineralize depleted soils across Brazil's agricultural heartland, including areas used for sugarcane, citrus, grains, coffee, and pastures. The company's process aims to address rising CO2 levels and soil degradation.

Inventory Assistant job description

Make our science work at scale

At InPlanet, we are scaling Enhanced Rock Weathering (ERW) across Brazil to remove CO₂ from the atmosphere while improving agricultural soils.

Behind every tonne we remove is a lot of science — and a lot of samples.

As an Inventory Assistant, you will play a hands-on role in making sure our samples are processed, organized, and tracked with the quality and accuracy our science depends on.

You’ll be based at our InPlanet Hub in Piracicaba, working closely with the Science and Inventory teams to keep our sample workflows running smoothly.

Key Responsibilities

Process samples

  • Receive and check incoming samples.
  • Inspect samples for labeling, condition, quantity, and completeness.
  • Process and prepare samples following established protocols.
  • Separate, homogenize, weigh, aliquot, and organize samples as required.
  • Prepare samples for analysis or shipment to external laboratories.
  • Handle samples carefully to avoid contamination, loss, or mix-ups.

Keep our samples organized

  • Keep sample records accurate and up to date.
  • Label and track samples and sub-samples throughout the workflow.
  • Organize physical sample storage and make sure samples are easy to locate.
  • Monitor sample quantities, status, and storage locations.
  • Support regular inventory checks and reconciliation.

Make sure things are done right

  • Follow SOPs and safety procedures consistently.
  • Perform quality checks and flag anything that doesn't look right.
  • Keep the sample processing area clean, organized, and ready to go.
  • Help identify bottlenecks and improve how we process and manage samples.
  • Support other Science and Inventory activities as needed.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree or technical qualification in Agronomy, Biology, Chemistry, Geology, Environmental Sciences, Soil Science, Environmental Management, or a related field.
  • A technical qualification in Chemistry or Environmental Management is also welcome.
  • You are highly organized and pay close attention to detail.
  • You enjoy hands-on work and are comfortable following structured processes.
  • You take accuracy seriously, especially when small mistakes can affect downstream scientific work.
  • You are comfortable with repetitive tasks and can maintain consistency over time.
  • You are able to keep clear records and work with spreadsheets and digital tools.
  • You are proactive and don't wait for someone else to fix something you notice.
  • You work well with others and communicate clearly.
  • You are available to work on-site at the InPlanet Hub in Piracicaba.

Nice to have

  • Experience handling soil, plant, geological, or environmental samples.
  • Experience in a laboratory, research, agricultural, or environmental setting.
  • Experience with sample inventory or laboratory information systems.
  • Basic knowledge of laboratory safety and contamination prevention.
