About Valstad

We combine industrial robotics, welding, sensing, and AI to turn 3D models into real high-mix ship structure. Our mission is to rapidly expand America's maritime output by 100x.

Our team works directly with large industrial robots and real manufacturing equipment at our Austin facility. The systems we build will ultimately be deployed across shipyards and industrial facilities throughout the country.

The Role

Valstad is seeking a Controls & Robotics Technician to help build, integrate, commission, operate, and maintain robotic manufacturing systems.

You will work with industrial robots, PLCs, electrical controls, welding equipment, sensors, networks, tooling, and safety systems.

What You Will Do

  • Install and commission robots, PLCs, remote I/O, sensors, and equipment.

  • Perform wiring, point-to-point checks, and I/O validation.

  • Configure PLC hardware and make controlled ladder-logic changes.

  • Integrate robot-to-PLC handshakes and industrial networks.

  • Operate robotic cells during testing and production.

  • Diagnose electrical, controls, mechanical, and communication faults.

  • Perform preventive maintenance and maintain program backups.

  • Support tooling, welding-equipment, and sensor integration.

  • Document wiring, configuration, and field changes.

What We Are Looking For

  • 3+ years in robotics, controls, automation, mechatronics, or industrial maintenance.

  • Experience troubleshooting PLC-controlled equipment.

  • Ability to read electrical schematics and ladder logic.

  • Strong electrical and mechanical troubleshooting skills.

  • Familiarity with industrial robots and teach pendants.

  • Strong safety and configuration-control discipline.

Experience with Allen-Bradley or Siemens PLCs, FANUC robots, HMIs, VFDs, industrial networks, and robotic welding is strongly preferred.
