Billing Analyst at Neighborhood Sun Benefit

Neighborhood Sun Benefit is hiring a Billing Analyst. On-site.

About Neighborhood Sun Benefit

Neighborhood Sun is a community solar provider that connects electricity customers to local solar farms. Subscribers receive a guaranteed discount on their monthly electric bill (typically 10–20%) without installing panels or paying fees; the service is available to renters as well as homeowners. The company states that its subscribers have saved over $15 million on electricity bills.

Billing Analyst job description

Neighborhood Sun is a Certified B Corp and Public Benefit Corporation that's been making clean energy accessible since 2016 — no rooftop, no upfront cost, no homeownership required.

As a community solar aggregator, we help connect community solar farm developers with community members local to the project in need of solar savings. We do through strong ties with local community leaders, non-profit organizations, value-driven businesses, and faith groups, as well as an incredibly loyal and dedicated subscriber base of solar advocates.

Behind every one of those savings is an invoice that has to be right. This is an entry-level role, and we'll teach you the solar part — we're looking for someone with accounting fundamentals and the instinct to check their work.

What You'll Do

  • Subscriber Invoicing — Run monthly billing cycles across multiple utility territories. Compare utility bill credits against solar production data, flag anything that looks off, and make sure invoices go out accurate and on time.
  • Subscriber Allocation — Process new subscribers, moves, transfers, and cancellations; update allocation percentages across our solar farm portfolio; help keep projects fully subscribed and aligned with each state's program rules.
  • Payments & Collections — Track payments, follow up on failed transactions, and work the collections queue from first reminder through escalation.
  • Reporting — Build and maintain AR aging, collections, churn, allocation reports, etc; support month-end close and account reconciliations.
  • Improve Systems — Work daily in our SunEngine billing platform and help improve the workflow as you get to know it.

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • Solid grasp of accounting basics: AR, reconciliations, debits and credits
  • Comfortable in Excel (formulas, sorting/filtering, basic pivot tables) and willing to grow into larger data sets
  • Clear verbal and written communication; able to present findings to internal teams and external partners.
  • Careful and detail-oriented — you'd rather double-check than guess
  • Able to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and maintain attention to detail

What You'll Get

A small, mission-driven team where a new person gets real responsibility quickly and a direct line of sight from their work to the outcome: more people with lower bills and cleaner power. You'll learn community solar billing end to end — a specialized skill set in one of the fastest-growing corners of the energy industry — with training and mentorship from day one. Health benefits and generous PTO.
